Last night’s ShoXC & EliteXC present King of the Cage has past and it’s time to see how the fans reacted to the event. As always, we have a bit of stats breakdown in terms of MMAPredictions users on the detailed results page. Here are a couple of the details of how things unravelled on MMAPredictions:
- The best predictor on ShoXC & EliteXC present King of the Cage was bradNsa, getting 80% of the card correct!
- 55 folks predicted on this card. As seems to be the trend, the second largest origin of predictors was Sweden!
- The average user’s score was 43.1% of the card correct! That’s probably due to the card having fighters who are less well known than in other organizations. Congrats to everyone who participated, even though you may not have felt as comfortable as normally!
Here are some quotes from the fighters:
- San Diego fighter KJ Noons said, ““This is definitely a different feeling than I had the first time I fought on SHOWTIME, but it solidified what I have been saying, that my last MMA fight was a fluke,” said Noons, who followed the knockdown with a right hand and right elbow to the face before the referee stepped in and stopped the proceedings 45 seconds in the third round. “This win reestablishes my status in MMA. I don’t want to say that a loss would have been devastating but now I am right back where I need to be.”
- His opponent Edson Berto, now 10-4-1, said “I was really dehydrated and very fatigued,” said Berto, who had an eight-fight unbeaten streak end. “It just didn’t allow me to be myself out there.”
- Jaime Jara had this to say about his encounter with Jeremiah Metcalf: “I think it tells a lot about a guy like me who can win a fight like this on two days’ notice. I had to cut a bunch of weight so that is why I was a little slow. Winning my fourth belt in my fourth different weight class (heavyweight, light heavy, middleweight and welterweight) is quite an accomplishment that I am proud of. I am a warrior. I get calls all the time. I am always ready to fight.’’
- Metcalf had this to say about the ref’s decision to end the fight: “I had him where I wanted him,’’ he said. “The punch flashed me, but it wasn’t a knockout. I was fine. They called it too early.”
Congrats again to all who participated!

This news just in:
Aaron Wetherspoon is unable to fight due to injury. Replacing Aaron will be Jaime Jara who is the current Gladiator Challenge Middleweight Champion. He will be dropping weight to fight the current Gladiator Challenge Welterweight Champion Jeremiah Metcalf at a catch weight of 175 lbs. in a non-title bout.
Regarding the fight, Jaime Jara stated, “I took this fight on two days’ notice but it won’t matter because I am always in the gym, always training anyway. I am very excited to get the chance to fight on SHOWTIME. He sees himself as a fast guy. So do I. Let’s see if I can slow him down a little.”
Jeremiah Metcalf does not seem shaken by the change in his opponent, saying “Fighting a late replacement means I have to change up my game plan but it is not a big deal because I am in great shape and prepared for anything. We are both fast-paced guys, so this should make for a really exciting, fast-paced fight. Fighting on SHOWTIME is a tremendous opportunity for me and a way for me to get a whole lot of exposure and get my name out there.”
Their encounter is reported to be five rounds of five minutes, though it is not a title bout as originally planned.

Today the IFL made public the fighters in its first Grand Prix tournament, to be held at the end of every year. The first round of this tournament will be held on November 3rd and fans in the Windy City of Chicago can look forward to another visit from the IFL after the organization’s prior visit in April 2007.
MMAPredictions users and fans of the IFL can already submit their predicitons for the full roster for the IFL 2007 Grand Prix Round 1. The event highlights the most successful IFL athletes in each weight division and will determine each weight division’s annual champion.
Among the full ten-fight card, fans can look forward to seeing the return of two of the most popular IFL combatants in a contest against each other:
Both Horodecki and Palaszewski were originally slated to meet in August second’s 2007 IFL Semifinals, however Horodecki’s hand was broken in his last fight against Shad Lierley.
Round two of the tournament will be held December 29 at another venue the IFL has visited before: the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticutt.

The International Fight League was formed in 2006 to present mixed martial arts to fans in a format familiar to other popular sports using the concept of teams. In IFL events, a team of five different fighters from lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight divisions compete against another team similarly composed. Whichever team wins the majority of the 5 bouts wins the match.
To borrow a hackneyed cliche, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, and a group of Brazilians recently announced their intention to create their own version of the IFL in Brazil called the MoTeam League, which was detailed earlier this month in Rio de Janeiro.

The winning team of each event above will go on to fight against one another on November 10.
The teams’ four coaches are well-known Brazilian fighters in their own rights:
For a little perspective on the organization, Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Fabio Gurgel is helping to organize the league, and the first two events will be held at the Club Athletico Paulistano, “one of the most traditional associations of leisure, culture, and sports in Sao Paulo”.

Tickets for the MTL: Wild Fire vs. Hurricane fights are on sale now. Here are the prices in Brazilian Reais and the US dollar equivalents:
- Front Row VIP: 250 Reais ($135.87)
- Normal VIP: 200 Reais ($108.71)
- All others: 80 Reais ($43.48)

Just a quick note to let people know that there will not be an episode of MMAPredictions Radio this week. We didn’t have an MMA event for people to predict on our site over last weekend, and Luis and I were talking and decided we didn’t want to jump on the air and record for the sake of recording. Keep an eye out for us next week, and in the meantime make sure you head over and get your predictions in for this weekend’s ShoXC & EliteXC present King of the Cage (if you’re not familiar with some of the fighters on the card, don’t be a wimp. Give it your best!).
Also, always remember that you have a platform to have your voice on MMA be heard via MMAPredictions Radio. It’s easy to get your opinion/insight/bragging out there:
- Dial (877) 247-4MMA .
- Leave a brief, intelligible comment that we can integrate into our next show.

Wow, MMAPredictions is getting busy! We have one new card for you and a total of eleven new fights to predict.
The fight card for the soonest set of fights on MMAPredictions, ShoXC & EliteXC present King of the Cage has become much clearer.
This KOTC card is set for Friday and parts will be televised on Showtime’s new series new series, ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series. The series will premiere live on Friday, July 27 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast), from Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California. The press release for this event noted that most episodes of ShoXC will be televised on Saturday, and that some episodes will take place in the cage and others in a ring, which is likely due to the fact that ShoXC will be covering MMA events from different promoters under the EliteXC umbrella as King of the Cage now appears to be.
On August 5 the UFC-owned WEC will be in Las Vegas. The following fights have been posted on the WEC website:
Lastly, the UFC announced the final addition to UFC 74: Respect.
Remember, all fight cards are subject to change. We will keep you informed here whenever there are any updates. Good luck predicting, and keep in mind there’s no need to avoid predicting on smaller shows! We plan on having larger annual prizes and the number of cards you’ve predicted will definitely be a criteria in determining the winner!

A new addition has been posted on the UFC’s offical line-up for UFC 74: Respect for August 25 in Las Vegas.

Babalu vs. David Heath
Former heavyweight title contender Renato “Babalu” Sobral will face David Heath. Babalu’s last fight was against Jason Lambert, who knocked out Babalu. Heath also lost his last match in a contest against Lyoto Machida at UFC 70.
Also added is the fight between Roger Huerta and Alberto Crane.
We’ve also added our first King of the Cage card, King of the Cage: Undisputed. So far we’ve got KJ Noons vs. Edson Berto and Aaron Wetherspoon vs. Jeremiah Metcalf.
